Random Thoughts from a Confessed Film Snob

FWWF - Ratatouille

I was not expecting to be posting another Film Worth Waiting For immediately after the last, but I just learned this piece of news this evening and it is too good to not include.

It was announced last Friday to Disney's shareholders that Brad Bird will be directing "Ratatouille," the next film from Pixar Animation Studios.

Bird wrote and directed Pixar's "The Incredibles," which is arguably the studio's best film. He also previously wrote and directed "The Iron Giant" - a great animated film that fell victim to inept marketing - and was one of the original developers of "The Simpsons."

"Ratatouille" was created by Jan Pinkava, who won an Oscar for his short film "Geri's Game." It is about a rat who is a connoisseur of fine food and who lives in a Parisian restaurant. Granted, that sounds like a premise which could go horribly wrong in the hands of most animators, but Pixar is the greatest digital animation studio in the world and Bird is the greatest animation director in the West. I have complete faith that "Ratatouille" is going to be an absolute delight for all audiences (especially discerning filmgoers).

The restaurant's chef will be voiced by Brad Garrett ("Everybody Loves Raymond"). "Ratatouille" is scheduled to be released on 29 June 2007.
